The Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic Challenges The Effects On Patient And Family. The most deadly of all mental diseases are eating disorders of any kind. They are also the most difficult to treat. The Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic takes on the challenge of fighting the effects of eating disorders on the patients and their families. After all, although the patient goes through all of the medical issues that can be caused by an eating disorder, both the patient and their family are affected mentally and will require therapy. The mission of the Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic is to advance the education, research, prevention and the treatment of the different eating disorders. They do this by providing educational opportunities and professional training for medical and mental health professionals about eating disorders and their treatments. They also create awareness through educational seminars and the participation in news-related activities. Various publications also help create awareness in the general public. Because the Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic conducts research into the recovery patterns of those people who have eating disorders, their treatments work wonders. They also educate those in charge of policy so they can remove barriers to treatment to those behind the barriers and they provide assistance to girls and women. This is because women and girls suffer from eating disorders more often than men. The Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic is financially supported by private funding from The Renfrew Center. This center is the first facility in the area that is freestanding yet exclusively dedicated to eating disorder treatments. This makes it a great place for the inpatient portion of the treatment. The Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic treats in house patients for any residual medical issues and also for the eating disorder. If they require treatment beyond the in house period, they can go into the part time in house care. In this portion of the Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic's program, the patient can come in for part of the day or the whole day only to go home at night. In this way they can still take part in group sessions, eat their meals in a supervised setting and weigh in each day. Once they are finished with the part time in house care, patients of Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic will come back weekly for a weigh in and therapy session. This is more for those who still require therapy because while therapy is still helping these patients, they are quite fragile.
